05:25 pm - Heart Shaped Box
Sometimes I don't know if it gets any better than Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana.

Do you ever become emotional about things that once were? Or things that used to be but never will be again? Like eras that are gone but that you lived through or read about? I guess what I'm saying is do you ever remember those that have fallen and wished them well that someday they might return? On this lonely planet of ours perhaps they will. There is that one person, or that one thing that will come back. Come back better than ever. Do you feel that the best is yet to come or that the golden age is over and we are doomed to a life of mediocrity and wishful thinking? Those are just some of the thoughts generated by listening to Heart Shaped Box.

10:08 am - $475, Pants, $900
Yesterday I refiled my 2003 tax return carrying over a recently discovered capital loss from 2002. Last year I got a notice from the IRS that they had never received my 2002 return. So in turning up documents for 02 I realized I had some capital losses but could only use part of them in 02. The rest I got to carry over to 03 for which I just finished filling out the paperwork. I will be getting a full refund of my $475 PLUS interest!

In cleaning out my closet yesterday I found a second pair of Dockers I had bought in October! I always wondered what had happened to them but then forgot about it. Now I have a brand new pair of pants, FOR FREE that don't wrinkle and can go in the regular wash. They were in the bag with the tags still on along with the receipt.

Finally the coup de grĂ¢ce is that I just saved $900 on a PowerBook G4 over buying it from the Apple Store, or any other retailer for that matter. Thank you eBay! Thank you guy with no reserve! Thank you eBayers who did not place higher bids!

Full specs: PowerBook G4 1.67 GHz, 2GB RAM, 120GB HD, Dual Layer DVD burner, 15.2" bright higher resolution screen, AirPort, Bluetooth, awesome battery life AND it still runs Classic! This is the first Mac I've bought that won't BOOT OS 9. The last Mac I bought was a PowerBook G3 400 MHz when I went abroad three years ago. Thankfully it can now be retired. But I will still continue to use the G4 Cube in all it's awesome 500 MHz glory till they build something worthy of its replacement.

Thank You,
That is all.

Ah Scrabble. One of life's last bastions of intelligence rewarded.
Saturday night I happen to kick ass at scrabble against Todd and Dark Chocolate. Final score, Me: 190 points Them: something less than that. Thank God for alternate spellings.

Did anyone else have the day off? No? Well I did. I win!

06:40 pm - Including but not limited to
I am here to talk to you today about passive aggressive behavior. I condemn passive aggressive behavior in all its forms. Passive aggressive behavior must be stopped.

Common Misconception: Passive aggressiveness only aggravates people who aren't passive.

Facts: Passive aggressive behavior allows you to keep yourself busy while accomplishing nothing. Passive aggressive behavior doesn't help anyone and exists only as a self serving tactic. Passive aggressive behavior is not fatal but it is detrimental to ones health.

A cure for PAB is within our grasp. Please do your part to help fight this terrible affliction. Together we can wipe out PAB in our lifetime.

04:29 pm - 2 mile run.
Friday I went over to the health club and ran two miles. Normally that wouldn't be significant cause I run a lot over there. But this time I ran 2 miles in about 15 minutes. That is a really awesome time for me. When I was in ROTC in college my best time ever was a 14:53. Running had sort of been my weak point when I was in the program. And now several years later I've achieved that artificial goal without really trying. It felt amazing to run that time and such a big post-ROTC accomplishment. Here's to 60 sit-ups and 50 push-ups in two minutes in 06. The other two "legs" of the fitness test.

Remember a long time ago when I started my job? Well if you don't I've been there since May of 05. After working there a short time I realized the company was not making any money. It was losing money. But recently (today) we got a new account. And this new account is going to put us in the black for 06. I'm very excited.

08:55 pm - Hello Bonus? Speaking!
Back in High School there was a commercial for a credit card with that line. It was classic. And today was classic too. My boss surprised me with a Christmas card and a book and a Starbucks card and... a Christmas bonus! Hello Bonus? Speaking! While not my first ever Xmas bonus it was probably the most thoughtful and generous. Spread the love everyone!

12:52 pm - Doing The Most Good
I highly suggest all of you make a holiday donation to your favorite charity. During my daily commute I see the Salvation Army's banner and donation thermometer. The banner reads "Doing The Most Good" and the thermometer tells me they need more money or its really freakin cold, both of which seem to be true. I'm not sure if there are facts to back up their claim about 'most good' though but I'm inclined to give them some money because they'd probably do more good with it than me. Also for those of you who don't like to pay taxes, donations can be written off.

Enjoy.

the Wit
(61% dark, 38% spontaneous, 21% vulgar)
your humor style:
CLEAN | COMPLEX | DARK

You like things edgy, subtle, and smart. I guess that means you're probably an intellectual, but don't take that to mean pretentious. You realize 'dumb' can be witty--after all isn't that the Simpsons' philosophy?--but rudeness for its own sake, 'gross-out' humor and most other things found in a fraternity leave you totally flat.

I guess you just have a more cerebral approach than most. You have the perfect mindset for a joke writer or staff writer.

Your sense of humor takes the most thought to appreciate, but it's also the best, in my opinion.

You probably loved the Office.

10:36 am - The Operation Was A Success
I'm pleased to announce that my surgery was a complete success! As noted in my last entry a week before the surgery I have a history of complication-free procedures and better than average healing ability. This time around is no different. My Dad brought me in Friday morning and by Friday afternoon I was out of there and feeling fine. They gave me a refillable prescription for Vicodin and some anti-biotics. I haven't needed the Vicodin for the pain because there largely hasn't been any and every day when I go to have the packing redone they say how well it is healing and how good it looks. Dr Virgili said the cyst was "nasty" and glad we got rid of it. I am too. This has been another great thing I've been doing lately. I'm so glad I got this one done. The only downside is I have to sit on the bench this week and next but after that I'm free to work out again. I can't wait to get back.

Also the Sox own the World Series! They earned it.

Everything is coming up Peter.

This thing is half right. I should be Batman. But not because I like retro TV because I think he's awesome. I mean did you SEE Batman Begins? Batman: best comic book character ever. Also while I do like the candy it's no longer my favorite part of Halloween.
<td align="center">You should be Batman

You love dressing up for Halloween because it lets you be creative and show people your retro taste in TV. The best part of Halloween for you is the candy, and you definitely look forward to it every year.

08:28 pm - Ready to Begin Again
I felt ready to begin again after this evening's workout. I was so pumped, excited, euphoric and full of energy. It's been about four weeks since I returned to the gym and today it really paid dividends. I've also lost ten pounds and feel really great. I'm making progress with my run and exercises. I started at two miles and now I'm up to 2.5 three times a week. I've been going to the gym more. At least once on the weekend and everyday during the week. Patience in results really works too. I've got a long way to go to dropping waist sizes or having abs to be proud of but I'm on the right track. I also think eating smaller portions of healthier food is paying off. I'm only sad that I have to take a break after my surgery before I can get back to the gym everyday.
I feel like Joe from Family Guy.

08:18 am - Going Under the Knife
A week from today I will be having a pilonidalcystectomy. Or in English, the removal of a cyst at the base of my spine. A cyst, in that location or not, is not an uncommon occurrence for someone in their early twenties. I knew someone else at Marquette who developed a cyst in the same place a few months after I did. It's been a thorn in my side for quite some time but I never got around to having it removed. Since I started working out again it has improved but not enough to warrant keeping it. One excuse for delaying it was my lack of health care coverage since I graduated but I have that now. The procedure is not very invasive and doesn't require a hospital stay BUT the gauze and wound dressing have to be changed DAILY until it is completely healed from the inside out or about six weeks. That is the most painful part of the procedure as you are under general anesthesia during the actual operation. It also requires a trip to the hospital to have it changed since I am unable do it myself. However, once this is over the cyst is EXTREMELY unlikely to return and that's good news for everyone. Historically, I have healed faster than most after surgery and can take a higher dose of physical pain. Healing and recuperation is as much a mental exercise as it is a physical one. Wish me luck!

02:35 pm - Turnaround Story
I am myself a turnaround story. 2005 is the year that I am turning myself around in a variety of ways. Now its largely internal but externally there are a few changes to note.

New phone: I finally broke down and bought a new phone. A phone I've had my eye on for some time. The battery lasts longer, its smaller, and I will never have the "my phone is dead" problem again.

Working out: On Thursday I went and worked out with Brian. It was the first time I worked out in three months. I am out of shape again but now I've made working out a priority again and its more practical now that I live in the city. I won't have the "you don't have strong arms" problem anymore.

My furniture arrived and I love it. It fits and looks exactly how I imagined it would and its great. Some of it still needs to be put together. Now I won't have the "there's no furniture in your room" problem again.

I'm still composing my list of ten things that bring my joy. I still have a few empty spots on the list. Ta all.

06:25 pm - New Episodes!
As you may remember, last week we had the season premieres of The Simpsons, Family Guy and American Dad. Tonight we get more new episodes from each of those shows starting at 7 on Fox. Yay!

I would say of the three American Dad was the best followed by Family Guy and then The Simpsons.

Also a reminder that TOMORROW night is the premiere of Arrested Development on Fox at 7 and TUESDAY night is the premiere of Boston Legal on ABC. Don't miss them! Both former Sunday night shows that have been unfairly moved to new nights and times.

I also went to the Bears game today with Jason. It kicked ass! The Bears beat the Lions 38 to 6! The Bears haven't scored that many points in one game since 1993! It was great plus it was an absolutely beautiful day!

Yay!
